Answers to both of these quizzes are provided.

On the Recommended Reading page you will find book reviews by the web author on several Civil War subjects and Abraham Lincoln biographies.

About the Author of Great American History

Gordon Leidner has maintained the Great American History website for over ten years. During this time, GAH has been visited millions of times (we lost count) by students, educators, homeschoolers, researchers, and writers that were seeking free, quality material on the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln.

Gordon has been a lifelong student of the Civil War. A few of his accomplishments:

  • Member of the Board of Directors for the Abraham Lincoln Institute
  • Author of 3 books
  • Author of several academic articles on Lincoln's role as a Transformational Leader
  • Author of many newspaper articles on the Civil War
  • Lecturer at The Smithsonian Institution
  • Lecturer at Johns Hopkins University
  • Guest Commentator on various radio programs
  • Former president of the Lincoln Group of the District of Columbia
  • We hope you enjoy our re-designed website, and find it more functional. If you find the material useful, and are so inclined, please consider donating to Great American History. We plan to add more free material in the coming years, and your donations could help cover some of the costs!
